Genesis deeply regrets to inform Texas residents of a temporary change impacting anatomical donations. The Texas Funeral Service Commission (TFSC) has recently implemented a moratorium, meaning a temporary pause, on accepting donations from Texas residents who wish to donate their bodies to science out of state. This decision, effective immediately and until further notice, is due to legal and regulatory complexities surrounding the interstate transfer of anatomical donations.
We understand this news may be disappointing, especially for those who have made the selfless decision to contribute to medical science. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you and your family.
What does this mean for you?
If you are a Texas resident considering whole body donation: For the time being, we encourage you to explore options with Texas-based medical schools or body donation programs, as they may still be able to accept your donation.
If you are a pre-registered donor in Texas with Genesis: Please be assured that your registration remains in our system. We will keep you informed of any updates from the TFSC and will gladly reinstate your donation should the situation change.
Why is this happening?
The TFSC is responsible for ensuring that all donated bodies and body parts are treated with the utmost respect. This moratorium allows them to address legal uncertainties and strengthen procedures to better protect donors and their families.
Where can you get more information?
To learn more about the moratorium: You can contact the Texas Funeral Service Commission directly at 512-936-2474
For questions regarding your pre-registration with Genesis or general inquiries: Please do not hesitate to reach out to our donor services team.
Genesis remains committed to facilitating anatomical donations and advancing medical science. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this temporary suspension. We are hopeful that this matter will be resolved soon, allowing us to once again serve the generous residents of Texas.
