  1. Complete the Donor Registration Forms:
    • Download the Genesis Donor Forms.
    • Complete the forms online and then print, OR print first and complete neatly by hand.
    • The completed forms MUST be hand-signed by the donor and two witnesses.
    • Mail the completed and signed Donor Forms.
  2. Inform Family or Legal Authorizing Party:
    • Make sure the family or legal authorizing party is aware of the decision to donate. They will need to contact Genesis at the time of death.
  3. Notification and Transportation:
    • Upon notification of passing, Genesis will provide transportation of the donor to MERI and handle all necessary paperwork, including death certificates.
  4. Participation in Medical Education and Research:
    • The donor will contribute to medical education, training, and research for a period of 6-12 months.
  5. Return of Cremated Remains:
    • After the research and education period, the cremated remains will be returned to a loved one or interred in a mausoleum in the Memphis area.

Acceptance into the body donation program is contingent on the donor’s medical suitability at the time of death. MERI aims to accept donors who can serve as “good teachers,” meaning they are free from infectious diseases that could harm learners and are in a physical condition suitable for creating a safe, high-quality learning experience.

Please note that MERI cannot accept donors who have moved to or passed away outside the Genesis service area, which includes approximately 18 states surrounding Tennessee.
